It offers Intel ® Advance ® Intel Xeon 'Nehalem-EX'

by on may.31, 2009, under Intel , Venezuela

Intel Corporation on Tuesday offered a preview of a new processor Intel ® Xeon ® , is codenamed "Nehalem-EX". The processor is in the heart of the next generation Intel server platforms high level, intelligent and expandable, which offer a variety of new technical developments and improve the computing performance of the company.

Nehalem-EX processor will start made by the end of this year. Include up to eight cores inside a single chip, which will support up to 16 threads and 24 MB of cache. Its performance increase will be enormous and will mean the biggest jump of all time with respect to any previous generation processor. *

Nehalem-EX will add new capabilities for reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS, an acronym in English), traditionally found in the family of Intel ® Itanium company, such as Machine Check Architecture (MCA). In addition to new levels of performance, these processors deveria high speed departure from RISC processor-based systems, more expensive and owners.

Ideal for server consolidation, virtualized applications, business applications and data demanding technical computing environments, Nehalem-EX will offer up to nine times the bandwidth of memory * compared to the previous generation, the platform Intel Xeon 7400 . Nehalem-EX will also double the memory capacity with up to 16 memory slots per processor socket, and offer four QuickPath Interconnect connections to high speed broadband. Nehalem-EX will offer a huge scale, from systems with two sockets and a large memory capacity up to eight-socket systems capable of processing 128 threads simultaneously without the need for third-party chips "collect the pieces" of the platform. There will be additional options for scalability, through third-party solutions, which include larger amounts of sockets.

Intel offers the most comprehensive portfolio of servers: the Xeon 5500 series delivers performance, power efficiency and flexibility leading to infrastructure applications. The + + Nehalem-EX will greatly increase the scalable performance, flexibility and advanced RAS capabilities of Intel Xeon 7400 for business applications that demand a large amount of data and also for server consolidation. Itanium offers increased scalability and advanced RAS capabilities for challenging environments.

Advantages of Nehalem-EX

  • Intel Nehalem architecture built on the extraordinary process of metal gate technology for 45nm high-k Intel
  • Up to eight cores per processor
  • Up to 16 threads per processor with Intel ® Hyper-threading
  • Scalability up to eight sockets through Quick Path Interconnects and even more with third-party node controller
  • QuickPath Architecture with four links of broadband high speed
  • 24MB of shared cache
  • Integrated memory controllers
  • Technology Intel Turbo Boost
  • Intel Scalable Memory Buffer and scalable memory interconnects
  • Up to nine times the bandwidth relative to the previous generation
  • Support for up to 16 memory slots per processor socket
  • RAS advanced capabilities, including the recovery MCA
  • 2300 million transistors

RISC to Reward: For customers migrating to platforms based on Xeon and Itanium

With the new capabilities for enterprise RAS high-level Nehalem-EX can accelerate the adoption of Information Technology (IT) platforms based on Intel over RISC-based platforms, offering a total cost of ownership lower, a higher performance, a power consumption lower and the ability to standardize a flexible IT environment. The Intel Itanium offers mainframe-class reliability for workloads mission critical and allows for greater scalability, especially for workloads with many threads. Itanium offers system configurations over eight sockets and is ideal for applications that access the memory banks of greater capacity.

Availability

The Nehalem-EX production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2009.
