BOSTON (Reuters) - Apple Inc on Wednesday launched 45 software patches to resolve unusual security flaws in its popular mobile devices iPhone and iPod Touch.
The company developed as part of the iPhone OS 3.0, imminent appearance.
"This is a lot of patches for the iPhone," said Dino Dai Zovi, a security expert who is writing a book on how to compromise the security of the iPhone.
Apple has a solid reputation in regard to their devices. While it is unusual that the company launched many patches at once, some analysts have yet to discover whether any malware has targeted the Apple iPhone since it went on sale two years ago.
Such weaknesses are not unique to Apple. Technology companies are constantly struggling to defend against "hackers" increasingly sophisticated and increasingly identifying a security flaw, it is possible for "hackers" exploit it.
Apple rival Research in Motion Ltd recently issued a security patch for its popular BlackBerry, resolving a defect that had the potential to allow "hackers" use the device to access corporate computer networks.
"Given the breadth of features and functions of the iPhone OS, it is not surprising that Apple security patches," said Cross Research analyst Shannon Cross.
Traditionally, the "hackers" have focused on writing programs that attack computers running Windows operating system from Microsoft Corp, because it is more than 90 percent of the world's personal computers.
Several analysts expect this to change because the mobile handset sales have skyrocketed while the computers are down. The Apple iPhones and iPods are devices dominate the rapidly growing sector.
"We are not only simple equipment used to make calls. They contain a lot of personal information and in some cases are used as electronic wallets, "said Joris Evers, spokesman for McAfee Inc, the manufacturer's number two security software.
