Motorola deploys its TETRA digital radio system on German highways

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced it has awarded a contract for the implementation of its digital TETRA radio infrastructure on motorways in Thuringia, Germany.
Motorola and its partner telent GmbH have reached an agreement for the installation of TETRA infrastructure and the provision of 200 terminals and MTM800E Motorola MTP850 and a dispatcher for the Landesamt für Straßenwesen (Department of Regional Road Maintenance). The completion of the contract, which also includes the installation of the Dimetra IP Compact TETRA at 43 points along a length of 450 kilometers of highway, is scheduled for 2010.

The beginning of the installation phase is scheduled for late in the third quarter of 2009. IPTETRA Dimetra System Motorola offers the Free State of Thuringia a secure, independent, high performance, capable of providing reliable communications between headquarters and the working groups located on the highway. Among other things, this allows infallible communications and operational control of freeway on-demand services, such as a demilitarized zone in case of accidents, snow removal and grit on the road.
The MTP850 TETRA handheld radio and the radio unit vehicle mounted TETRA Motorola MTM800E ensure secure voice and data. The MTM800E can be easily installed in any vehicle or motorcycle and radio MTP850 is a high performance compact and lightweight. The user interface similar to a mobile phone and rugged design are two of the outstanding features that offer both digital radio solutions. They also offer important safety features and ensure voice and data communications secure, reliable, even under the most adverse operating conditions. The units have built-in GPS receiver, which automatically indicates the position and ensures optimum operation planning and increases security of the working groups in emergencies.
