In fact, it is the most interesting aspect of the review, although this information is buried in the bottom of this article, along with the words indicating which RSS support also appears to have been removed from Safari. Cybercriminals use Twitter to infect users

by on Jun.09, 2009, under Internet

PandaLabs, the laboratory for detecting and analyzing malware, Panda Security, has located a new attack on Twitter users. In this case, cybercriminals have created hundreds of Twitter accounts and have posted all of them thousands of comments on "Broadcast PhishTube," related to the American rock band "Phish." Thus, getting to that topic appeared in the list of the most talked or "trending topic". So getting more visibility and user traffic to your comments.

The list of the most discussed ("Trending Topics") appears in the interface of all Twitter users and fulfill the topics you are talking more on this network. If you click on them, the user is led to a search where you can see everything that was said in reference to these topics and users who have posted the various comments.

In this case, if a user of Twitter pricked on the link in the "Trending Topic" called "PhishTube Broadcast", saw all the malicious comments published in the accounts created by cyber criminals. In these, including links redirected to a fake page with pornographic content. By clicking on any of the items on that page, you end up infected with a copy of the fake antivirus PrivacyCenter.

A fake antivirus is a type of adware designed to perform a fake system scan, like a legal antivirus, and show the user dozens of detections that actually do not exist. Thus, the user pretends to be infected. It then gives you the option of removing this malware by purchasing the premium version of the fake antivirus. The objective is to obtain money through these sales.

"Recently, we had warned of increased attacks or malicious techniques BlackHat SEO search engine optimization, especially aimed at selling fake antivirus. In this case, instead of a search engine itself, the attack has been the ranking of Twitter, getting up an existing business to the list of the most popular. So, anyone interested in the subject, would go to the thousands of malicious comments, although we have located some, not many, they were legitimate, "says Luis Corrons, technical director of PandaLabs," The fact that this network brings together millions of users, makes it very attractive for criminals and it is likely that we wait to see new attacks against it. "

This attack on Twitter is very similar to those suffered by other popular pages called Web 2.0 as Digg.com or YouTube and also reported PandaLabs.
